To swim the length of the English Channel at Robinson Pool - challenging a team of determined people to complete 1025 lengths (collectively) to raise money for our services to support unpaid carers in our county!
Challengers were asked to complete as many - or as few - lengths as they felt and be part of a team effort to complete this challenge.
On the 16th February, a team of swimmers made a splash at Robinson Pool in aid of Carers in Bedfordshire with the aim of collectively swimming the length of the English Channel.
With over a thousand lengths to swim and only two and a half hours in the pool, it seemed to be a Big challenge.
Every swimmer went above and beyond what they expected of themselves with some more than doubling their targets but sadly did not quite manage to swim the entire distance.
They did achieve more than three quarters of the distance, however, and raised more than £500 for Carers in Bedfordshire in the process.
A huge thank you to everyone that got involved including volunteers on the day, staff at Robinson Pools & Fitness and of course, the heroic team of swimmers!
At first I was nervous and didn’t think that I would be able to get to my target of 50 because of my health. I found the first 20 lengths quite tough but pushed through. I took a few short breaks to pace myself and before I realised it, I was past 50 and managed to push on to swim my one hundredth length just as our time came to an end. I used to swim regularly but I surprised even myself with my total. – Julie Bird
A special thank you to Larissa Clarke at Transition Coaching and Kate Barnard Physio for helping with the promotion for the event and to Lisa Simpson and Robinson Pools & Fitness for helping the event run smoothly on the day!
